I've just started my "tour" and know already that this was a good choice --a gift to myself. I might wish for even more detail and history, but then the book would so big and heavy I wouldn't be able to pick it up. Love it, and look forward to hours of armchair enjoyment, learning as well as looking.

The National Trust for Scotland acquired its first garden at Culzean Castle in 1945 and at the time of publication of the book in 2005 it now has 35 main gardens and 15 subsidiary gardens.Each garden is beautifully described in pictures and in the text that includes designs,plantings,history,settings,and cultural connections.The Trusts policy on conservation and restoration is outlined.As a nice touch pictures of the Trusts gardeners are included.A ten star book.
The pictures in this tabletop book are nice, but I was looking for something to take with me on a trip to Scotland.
