One of the best travel guides available. It covers Kansas in great detail providing a great deal of useful or just interesting information. My husband and I like to travel the back roads and we often stay in out of the way places. This books covers them all. I can read aloud while we are driving which is highly entertaining and informative. If you are planning to visit Kansas, this book is a very worthwhile addition to your planning and travel.

I had viewed and older explorer's guide & decided to buy this one. It does not mention natural landmarks & only lists places that cost money. There are few places that are free but not very many. I wish I never purchased this book.
I have purchased several books on how to find neat things to do in Kansas for either day trips or overnight adventures.This book rates 3 stars to me b/c it was easier and more interesting to use than my 3rd selection. Waterman Gray manages to capture the essence of the Sunflower State in a conversational voice that takes you from museum to restaurant to diner to historic sites with interesting facts, trivia and the ease of a seasoned travel guide. The day after purchasing the book, I used it while driving through the Flint Hills and it without a doubt enhanced my experience. It's a terrific gift book, too, for former Kansas residents living outside the state. The photos are great and the mouthwatering descriptions of food found throughout Kansas are an added culinary bonus--Waterman Gray is a well-known food writer, in addition to penning stories about travel throughout the country.
