About the Author
Nicolae Klepper, born in Romania, came to America with his parents at the outbreak of World War II, at the age of 12, and settled in New York. Later, returning from a tour of duty with the U.S. Army in Europe, he decided to devote his career to international business. After obtaining Engineering and Business degrees from the University of Denver, he worked and lived in Europe, Africa and the Middle East for the next 25 years. He also author of Romania: An Illustrated History (Hippocrene Books) and his first novel The Geneva Affair (Haret Books). He and his wife, Ann, reside in Edinburgh, Scotland.

I haven't read the entire book yet, actually I'm still pretty early in, but I bought this for research as I'm writing a story that relies heavily on Romanian history and culture, and I've already learned so much vital information. Writers, this is the one you want.
My grandparents were immigrants from Iasi, Romania and I read this book in an attempt to learn more about my cultural background. I was not disappointed! This book provides a full history (although the changes politically occur so frequently they become difficult to follow) with focus on the key figures in politics, as well as in literature. The stories of different regions of Romania - Moldavia, Transylvania, Wallachia etc. - are covered. This book is a very readable and very comprehensive introduction to Romanian history.

Readers will learn a lot about Romania, a country about which very little is knownin the West, outside of its Dracula mythology which is so popular nowadays.

I loved the flow of the book. Very easy to read and follow. The book was full of detail and writen in a way to hold your interest. A must read for anyone interested in Romania and the Balkans
