About the Author
Raised and educated in Denver's Capitol Hill, Patrick Soran lives in the very home in which he was born. The house was purchased by his grandparents in 1936 and has served as hearth and home to three generations. Needless to say, Patrick is an enthusiastic advocate of Denver; he loves to pedal its bicycle paths, chat with friends in its urbane coffee shops, walk its tree-lined avenues and, of course, spend autumn Sundays cheering (and crying!) for the Denver Broncos. Trained as an architect, Patrick designed luxury homes and hotel interiors for 15 years before trading T-square and triangle for computer and camera in 1990. Now he explores the world writing articles about travel, design and personalities for newspapers and magazines across the country. Patrick is immensely proud to write about his home state. He believes Colorado has terrific wilderness and wildlife experiences, edge-of-the-envelope recreation and exciting cultural and lifestyle opportunities.

My husband and I have vacationed in RMNP many times, but did not know about some of the easy walks and hikes described in this book. The format is well-presented with a brief description of each walk or hike, including the elevation gain and length of the trail which is important to us as we're in our mid sixties and can't physically handle moderate to strenuous hikes any more. The locator maps are arranged by geographic area, and information on how to reach the trailhead is listed, too. The photography adds to the enjoyment of each 1-2 page trail profile. This book fits easily into a small backpack so I can take it along as we explore. I've read the book cover to cover, and marked my favorite destinations. I am very pleased with this book, and we'll be checking out several of the walks and hikes when we return to RMNP in May.

I bought this book two years ago before my first trip to Rocky and am now preparing to use it for my third trip. It's compact enough to carry around, yet contains all the info you need, plus some great photos. Each hike displays exact distance and elevation, so you know exactly what to physically be prepared for. Best Tip:the final hike,#42 states "high on list of places in Rocky you are most likely to see moose". That statement sent me straight to that trail and sure enough I turned a corner on the trail and came face to face with "Bullwinkle". Highlight of the trip.
