I have waited for this book to come out for 6 weeks! I woke up early that day before school just so that I could have my mother buy it. This book is a very complex mixture of delight and dissapointment. I did like this book overall, but something very sad happens around the beginning of the book. I will not spoil it for you, but I was so surprised that the author would do that. As I said earlier, I liked this book overall. I would recommend it to people who liked Refugee, also by Alan Gratz.
Grenade, an amazing book that shows The Battle of Okinawa for young adults. It is about a kid on Okinawa who ends up on The Battle of Okinawa. The reason I say it is a pretty good read and not perfect is because through out the book it gets happy and sad. In order, my favorite Alan Gratz books are Projekt 1065, Grenade, and then Prisoner 3087. This is a pretty great read that is a fast pace read, so I give it 4 stars.
My 13 year old really likes this author. He offers good, historically-based, fiction that gets kids' attention and begins conversation. Very action-packed. Very altruistic. Very captivating. This is one of the few authors this child reads besides sports stories.
My step son is 12 He likes historical fiction, and fantasy. He really likes this series
Coming from a different side of World War II, Grenade shows the transformation of boys to men as they engage in battle.

Good book, 10 yr old loved it!
My students loved this book! Used it for lit-cirlces and it was the most popular choice for my 8th grade students.
